I’m kind of (read as “totally”) partial to the flavor of Mexican food.  I love tortilla chips, salsa, guacamole, tacos, carne asada, burritos, etc.  I like to make breakfast dishes with Mexican flavor as well as lunch or dinner dishes.

Over the years, we’ve compiled quite a nice list of Mexican-inspired dishes in the website and I thought it was about time to do a blog mash up of some of our favorites.  I consulted our resident chef, Heidi, and asked for her favorites and then added some of my own.  It was HARD to narrow it down to 10, so we decided to do our current favorite 20 recipes.

These 20 healthy Mexican recipes are NOT even close all of the recipes we have in our database under “Mexican”.  These are just the current favorites as I’m writing this blog.  You can check out all of the Mexican recipes in our recipe search section under “cuisines” and then “Mexican”.  Just click “Recipes” in the main menu on the site or here is a direct link.

Not all of these recipes are something you would expect to find in an authentic Mexican restaurant.  They’re simply inspired by Mexican flavor and dishes.  Some are traditional and some are creative, but all are clean eating by the 90/10 standard.

What makes them "Healthy Mexican Recipes"?

  1. Whole, Fresh, Real Foods:  These recipes just use real food.  Most of the ingredients are things that don’t even have a nutrition facts label at the store (things like chicken, vegetables, whole grains and fruits) because they are just whole foods.
  2. No Added Sugar:  The ingredients called for in these recipes have no added sugar.  You won’t find ingredients that typically have cane sugar, maltodextrin, dextrose, or artificial sweeteners.
  3. No Other Red Tier Ingredients:  We never use red tier ingredients in our recipes.  That is, we never use ingredients listed on our red tier which lists the foods that we do not eat on a daily basis.

These recipes are free of refined grains, refined sugars, and preservatives and are made from REAL FOOD!
