Those little Instant Oatmeal packets are so cute and convenient, aren’t they?  Unfortunately, they also contain non-90/10-friendly ingredients and cost too much.  Why not make your own with these DIY Instant Oatmeal Packets?

Instructions

  • Add 5 cups oats to a blender or food processor. Process until powdered. Add to large bowl.
  • Add remaining oats to the same blender or food processor. Pulse until oats resemble coarse crumbs. Add to powdered oats.
  • Add salt, coconut sugar (if using), milk, and cinnamon to oats. Mix well. Add to bags, 1/2 cup to a bag. Seal and store up to 2 months.
  • To cook, combine contents of 1 packet with 1 cup boiling water.

Notes

Optionally add up to 3 cups chopped dried unsweetened fruits, such as dried apples.  Please note: if using dried fruits, it is suggested that you store the packets in the freezer for longer life.  For dairy free and/or vegan, use powdered soy milk.  For gluten free, be sure to select gluten free oats.  Coconut sugar has been included to keep this a dry mix.  You can omit it and add sweetener (such as honey, pure maple syrup, or agave) after reconstituting, if desired.
You can also store these in pint size mason jars and you can just pour the water in and go (although the glass will get hot so hold near the top).
