Air Fryer Parmesan Rutabaga Fries

If you don’t have an air fryer, you can try these Air Fryer Parmesan Rutabaga Fries in your oven as well.  They come out crispy and tasty in the air fryer though, so don’t skip this recipe if you have an air fryer!  I’ve tried a couple of air fryers and I like this Cuisinart one the best.

I recommend pairing these with a Bacon and Egg Burger.

Air Fryer Parmesan Rutabaga Fries

Air Fryer Parmesan Rutabaga Fries

Ingredients

  • 2 lb rutabaga
  • 2 Tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • salt
  • pepper
  • 1/2 cup parmesan cheese

Instructions

  • Peel rutabagas, and slice into thick cut julienne fries. Toss fries with olive oil.
  • Put approximately half of the fries into the air fryer basket. If your air fryer is large enough to do more, you can, but mine fits about half of this recipe at a time.
  • Turn the air fryer to 400F for about 18 minutes. Shake the basket every 5 minutes or so to move the fries around a bit.
  • Sprinkle fries with parmesan, salt, and pepper.
  • Repeat with the second batch.

  1. Tried, but did them in the oven because I don’t have an air fryer. They weren’t crisp enough. Will need to try again in hopes they come out crispier.

    1. I just tried these, but 18 minutes seemed too long. I gave them a toss twice, but after 9 minutes, they were browned in several places. I was afraid they were going to burn if I left them in for the entire 18 minutes. Maybe set them temp in my air fryer to 375 instead of 400 next time?

        What kind of air fryer do you have? It can vary a bit with the type and how many fries you put in. Were the fries cooked through in the 9 minutes?

  2. Made these as recipe outlined – I may have cut my “fries” too thick, but they weren’t very crispy. They were tasty, though, so I’ll be trying again. If I could get them as crispy as REAL French fries, they’d be a very satisfactory substitute!

    1. Hi! Thanks for the comment. I find it is difficult to get them just as crispy as regular fries even in the air fryer. I do find it better than the oven though. One thing is to make sure you are tossing them fairly often so they get hit on all sides.

  3. I have been keto for over a year now. I have done many rutabaga recipes. This one is by far the best. Only because I have the same air fryer that is recommended.

  4. Love these! Next time I will cut them in little cubes. Taste and texture was more like fried potatoes (if your southern you know the difference .). They were a pleasant surprise and will be forever in my keto rotation!
