All Purpose Baking Mix

Author: Heidi Boortz
Servings : 6 cups

Ingredients

All Purpose Baking Mix

  • 4 cups 100% whole wheat flour
  • 2.5 Tbsp baking powder
  • 3 tsp salt
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk powder or soy milk powder for dairy free
  • 1/2 cup avocado oil

Whole Wheat Biscuits

  • 2 1/4 cups all purpose baking mix plus more for sprinkling
  • 2/3 cup milk

Instructions

All Purpose Baking Mix

  • Combine all ingredients and add to an airtight freezable container, such as a freezer bag. Store up to 1 year in the freezer. Use 1:1 in any recipe calling for all purpose baking mix.

Whole Grain Biscuits

  • Preheat oven to 450. Spray cast iron skillet or cake pan with cooking spray. Mix All Purpose Baking Mix and milk in a medium bowl. Stir until a soft dough forms. Sprinkle additional baking mix on a clean work surface. Add dough, and turn several times to coat in mix. Knead 7-10 times.
  • Roll dough out to about 1/2 inch thick. Using a round biscuit cutter or the rim of a drinking glass, cut biscuits. Place biscuits in prepared pan. Gather any scraps and knead them together; roll out, and cut. Repeat as many times as necessary to use all or most of the dough.
  • Bake at 450 for 7-9 minutes or until golden brown. Serve warm with butter and honey, if desired.
